The art of all plant-based potions lies in the combination of substances
that are mutually beneficial and enhance one another. This is the principle
of synergy...the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. The final
elixer has a far greater effect than does the taking of each substance
separately.
The action of healing remedies is to open us up for the recption of
the Spiritual Self...to fill our natures with the virtues we need and to
cleanse us from the faults that are causing harm. They inspire the physical
as well as the spiritual self to raise our very natures, bringing us peace
and relieving our sufferings. They heal by not attacking the disease but by
flooding our bodies with the vibrations of our higher nature. There is no
true healing unless there is a change in our out-look, peace of mind and
inner happiness.
Barbara's Healing Oil
This is an oil that my mother used for all of our cuts, scrapes, burns, and
other assorted maladies. It is also an excellent moisturizer and when I use
it for that purpose I add a couple of drops of my favorite essential oil.
3 tblsp safflower oil
3 tblsp sesame oil
2 tblsp sunflower oil
2 tblsp apricot kernal oil
3 tblsp almond oil
2 tblsp avocado oil
2 tblsp peanut oil
1 tblsp olive oil
1 tblsp wheat germ oil
Combine and keep refrigerated, it contains no preservatives and will go
rancid. I warm it before use unless it is for a burn.
The safflower is an excellent treatment for a variety of skin
complaints. This plant is not related to saffron but is used as a
substitute owing to the high price of the latter.
Sesame is legendary for opening locked door, revealing secret passages
and finding lost treasures...this also applies to the hidden gifts we all
have within each and every one of us.
The geometrical perfection of the sunflower gave the ancient Incans
the strong reverance for this plant's great magickal powers. It is capable
of re-balancing the ego, restoring self-esteem, imparting wisdom and also
used as an aid in conception. Sunflowers were once used to ward of small pox.
The apricot is used in love potions and promotes beauty...without as
well as within. It is used widely in the cosmetic industry for its softening
action on the skin.
According to Greek myth, Phyllis was deserted by her lover Demophoon
and died of grief so the gods changed her into a barren almond tree. When
her lover returned and embraced the tree in his grief the almond burst into
leaf and flower, hence a symbol of true love transcending death.
Historically it has been used to combat fevers, impart wisdom and is an
excellent remedy for chapped hands.
In Scriptural and classical writings the oil of the olive is used as a
symbol of goodness and purity and the tree represents peace and happiness.
It ensures fertility as well as sexual potency in men. Externally it
counteracts the effects of stings or burns and babies absorb its nourishment
well through their skin.
Avocados are lust inducing and promote beauty, the peanut is a potent
fertility inducer. Wheat germ oil is extremely high in Vitamin E which
promotes healing and helps prevent scarring.
