I'm sure there are plants with masochistic tendencies. I made the mistake of planting mint and blackberry bushes too. These thrive on all attempts to control them. I wound up cutting my grass down to the extent that it almost entirely died off...but the mints shootlings LOVED it! Now my neighbors know exactly when I cut my lawn, or what's left of it, by the reek of mint that permeates the air.

The blackberry bushes? Ahhhh, the blackberry bushes.... I'm sure they're an alien species sent to take over the Earth. Many is the time my wife has come home from work, only to find me enmeshed, with both my hands and half my head, in the bush, trapped and unable to escape. It's barbs are like sharks teeth, allowing you easy entry...but impossible to remove. I'm sure that's where the gov't got the idea for razor wire. The more you struggle, the tighter it holds you.

I imagine it's a predator plant, enticing you with it luscious berries only to entrap you with it's barbs until you die; with your bones feeding the plant itself.

It's funny though, the birds don't seem to have a problem with it. Do you realize what birds, engorged on deep purple blackberries do to a white Jeep??? It isn't a pretty sight I'll tell ya. You think of these things while you wait for your wife to come home to rescue you... it's a wonder I'm still sane.

I've been playing peek-a-boo with the blackberry shootlings for the last 5yrs now. My hedges are more correctly termed blackberry trellis' now, impenetrable to all except the evil neighbor cat that stalks me daily, only to rush back into his protective jungle. God help me, what have I created.... the only thing between me and oblivion is a heavyduty Black and Decker hedgetrimmer.
