Wouldn't it be prudent to take the same precautions and warnings to heart that you hear you should if you use a Ouija board or spirit board?

The difference between scrying/tarot and ouija is that ouija by nature involves both evocation and invocation. The ouija is designed to invite a spirit to come on over and take over part of the body (hands). It attempts to set up a manifestation and a dialogue. Scrying is opening oneself to information in the collective, as opposed to inviting an unknown entity to manifest. Anytime you open yourself to random information on the psychic level you are at some degree of risk, however your normal precautions/security system should suffice.

Where do these images originate? Your unconcious/superconciousness with the 'safeties' off? Jung's collective unconsciousness? Ascended Masters? Could we be treading on the edges of demonology?

Want an AOL analogy? Scrying is like surfing the web with your securities on. You can delete the cookies.

Ouija is like opening your mail/IMs to anyone, running around making it clear that you don't know what you are doing, talking to anyone who appears from AOL or another chat program and downloading attachments and clicking on unknown links.

How do you know any images seen aren't planted there by 'Capt. Howdy', and in a year or less who's to say you won't be sharing a cell with 'Son of Sam'? What precautions *can* you take, other than maintaining your shield/wards and taking everything seen with a ton of salt?

Any insights, definitive or otherwise?

Okay, divination by tarot is a means of using a built in filter for the information. The tarot comes with pret-a-porter symbols and the diviner controls the interpretation. Scrying is a bit more open as it's less of a filter and you really need to supply more of your own controls. One of the most common sense precautions you can take with scrying is a limited exposure during and a lot of grounding/banishing afterwards. It's also a good idea to

record/transcribe your impressions for review later - AFTER you dustbust your space.
